The Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve is a large preserve with many different paths to hike on. You can run or even walk your dog on either the east or west side of the interstate. From east Preserve you can see the backside of the power plant, run by Florida Power and Light. Seeing the river is a challenge at times but worth the walk. The east side has river access and a long board walk covering about twenty-five percent of the trails. The west side unfortunately lacks long walks. The one advantage is that it’s easy to get to, right off of I75 just behind Loves gas station. The park also has a path to a railroad. This railroad is not apart of the preserve but is easily accessed from the west. Don’t forget to bring water boots because when I went exploring, both parks had many natural waters.
I wanted to explore this park because I was interested in the railroad which was near by. I wanted to get some good photos of the rail for the day, because, I haven’t been exploring for quite awhile. During my stay I was approached by a county worker and she told me about what was on the other side (east). After concluding my outing at that park I ran home to eat and rehydrate than proceeded to the east side. Now, when I started the hike, I was expecting it to be short and sweet like the first one on the west. I was mistaken in this idea, I had my camera in hand and a small water to drink. I walked for about two hours taking pictures and exploring the trails. I saw the interstate and the power plant. I caught some wild life shots, not very many although. I was getting close to getting back to the board walk and I ran into what could only be described as a lake in the path. I wasn’t going to walk two hours back around to avoid some water. So, I went on through the water, soaking my socks. I was greeted by a bench on the other side. I used this bench to dump the water out of my shoes and continued home.
After coming home, I sent the pictures of my journey to the good people who run this preserve. Although after some thought and a need for content for my website. I came up with the idea to make this journey into a weekly or monthly adventure for all to see. Both bettering the awareness of these beautiful parks and giving back to the community.
