Night Photography

Since the dawn of photography, we have always been fighting the absence of light in our photos. We strive for perfection in exposure in every photo. Back when we had film, light meters were our best friend because you couldn’t take a picture and look at your results. Now, we have digital and we think we can live without our trusty light meter, however, we are still fighting the three factors of lighting. I’m not talking about Lighting patterns. I’m talking about that thin line between getting the right depth and the right shutter speed without making our pictures noisy. I love photographing at night in places with a ton of lights.

I love the ambience and atmosphere of the whole experience. The struggle of not only getting the model to hold still, but the thrill of exposing your photos correctly without a flash. Chasing and dancing with the light all around the city while looking for bright backgrounds, holds a special kind of joy. Then cranking the ISO well above your safety zone. Racking the mind trying to find tricks to boost camera performance. After all, what’s the point of having an easy beautiful photo if there was no fight for it.

Go out and have fun. Do something worth smiling for. Make art worth smiling at. Be someone everyone can smile with.
